I don't think they would have held it against you if you weren't given any options.

I know in that case I wouldn't have.

[He never held it against Venom Snake. He would have done anything to preserve their base. He's not all that sure about the captains, but surely they had to see when someone had not choice.]

Ocelot is the one that trained you, correct?

[If he's going to bring up things uncomfortable for himself, might as well not beat around the bush.]

Yeah, I'm sure I was exciting to watch.

[But Liquid's not expecting that, not at all.]

Er. I wouldn't say he trained me, exactly. Gave me some pointers, maybe. Got a bit of training when I was young to start with. Sort of what I was doing in Africa, before I escaped. Learned plenty when I joined the SAS, too. Once I hit FOXHOUND I was put in charge already. A lot of what I do's self-taught.

[And some's genetic, but that's a given.]

What, did he tell you he did?

No. I had just assumed.

[Because if Kaz returned to Cipher, Ocelot said he would aid the other son. It still perplexes him. The way it was said, Ocelot already had it in his mind that Kaz would play his "role". Help train one of Big Boss's children. The idea of returning to Cipher was appalling, but when said aloud by Ocelot, it seemed like the only way he could challenge Big Boss.]

[He had to pick the thing that he hated that hurt him less.]

I had a discussion with him after Big Boss died that made me think back on it. You don't exactly act the way it seems he would want you to.

Not that it's a bad thing. He makes a lot more mistakes than he gives himself credit for.

Well, good. If I'd started acting like he'd want me to, I'd have to get someone to give me a good punch and snap me out of it.

[He laughs.]

Maybe he tried to train me, but he just couldn't find me, and by the time he did, I didn't need it. I did spend some time off the grid, here and there. So to speak.

Feels like an incredibly bizarre concept, though. Bit hard to imagine.

I can say with some certainty that when he has someone acting like he wants them to, it takes more than a punch to snap them out of it.

I was having a discussion with him. Sort of bothered me, but I guess it doesn't matter. What places did you feel were hardest for him to find?

Well, I don't know if he really was actively looking for me or not. Mantis and I sort of traveled for a while, before I ended up back in England. He certainly wasn't hanging round the Middle East where I was either. But who's to say he didn't know?

This, ah, isn't something I've really considered much, to tell the truth.
