Ok, let's do this.

[Venom waited for the start screen before the FIGHT! screen came up. He began smashing buttons at Liquid's character, kicking him in the head and then head-butting him.]

Thought so, yeah.

[Hey, he wasn't above choosing a character through style alone.]

I won't go easy on you even if this is your first game.

[It had been some time since the last time he'd played a game, but he got back into the groove easily enough, letting loose a volley of attacks.]

Fine. I don't want you to go easy on me anyway.

[Venom controlled his character to block each move Liquid's was dishing out at him. The guy was fast but Snake was able to counter attack with a volley of double kicks and high jump kicks.]

[Liquid scoffed.]

Well, you seem to at least be getting the hang of it.

[Still, Liquid knew his way around a video game or two (or three, or fifty, or a hundred), and soon enough he was getting himself into a good groove, blocking and hitting whenever he saw fit. Also he tended to turn the controller while he was playing even if it didn't do anything.]

So do you.

[He knew Liquid had the advantage in that being he was younger and had experience in video games. Venom was a newbie.]

Your guy's ass is pretty big.

I've already had the hang of it. I'm good at this stuff.

[Kick kick kick kick. He knows what he's doing, for the most part.]

Nice kicks. How about this? [Snake smashed some buttons and performed a combo of kicks and a power throw.]

Uh-huh.

[Some complicated button presses and he blocked a good bit of it, but he had to give credit where it was due.]

Not bad for a beginner. You might get good at this. But for now...

[He keeps on working with those combos.]

I'm just getting warmed up.

[Snake shot Liquid a sly glance, as he blocked a few moves from Liquid's character then began jumping up and kicking his opponent in the face.]

High kicks? Nice.

[Snorting in laughter, Liquid shook his head.]

Well, you're trying at least. I'll give you that.

[He jumped his character back, started blocking, and let out another volley of kicks.]

Maybe you'll even win one later on.

I can try a hell of a lot harder too.

[Ahab grunted, as his fingers began to ache with all the button bashing his was doing. Damn, Liquid's character was whooping his ass.]

Damn. How can your guy even do that?

Can you? Should try it, then.

[Liquid just kept on landing combo after combo, getting more comfortable with it as time went on. He might not have been the most familiar with this version of the game, but it wasn't hard to figure out.]

You just have to figure out which buttons to press.

Yeah, seems that way.

[Ahab grunted with the effort of keeping his fingers glued to the buttons whilst smashing them repeatedly. He was landing blows to Liquid's character and even managed to perform a combo.]

Look's like I did something.

[Liquid regarded his apparent effort with an eyebrow raised and a nod.]

Not bad. You do seem to be getting the hang of it.

[Liquid was still damn good, though, and he countered more than he got hit.]

Yeah. This guy can kick and punch pretty well.

[As in his character. Snake completed a combo of kicks and punches aimed at Liquid's character. But then Liquid was countering. Damn.]

Of course. I've had a bit of time to get good.

[He kept countering Ahab's character, although he did get some hits in here and there. Ultimately, though, Liquid blocked a lot and it looked like the battle was nearing its end.]

This is a little more... high-end than I'm used to, but still.

I don't doubt that.

[How long was that? A few more years then Snake.]

Yeah, it is high-end for me too. [When he was used to Walkman's and tapes. Snake slammed the buttons down a few more times, before seeing his character end up getting K.O'd.]

[He'd had a good amount of time in arcades here and there, and as someone who liked fighting, fighting games were just as good.]

Right, this is probably all sorts of space-age for you, isn't it? [He kept tapping at the buttons, and finally he came out on top.]

I did. But you didn't do so bad.

Thanks. Yeah, it's pretty surreal.

Well, just practice a bit more and I'm sure you'll do fine.

[Liquid's totally sure he'll still be the champion though.]
