you want to play some video games in the Rec Room? heard there's this popular game called Mario Kart. Also a punching game called Tekken.

[Because Quicksilver was playing it earlier when Boss walked in.]

yeah. heard that people play it in the rec room. didn't take you for a Tekken fan, Liquid.

[A fighting game? Of course Liquid would be into it, right?]

Didn't take you for someone who knew what that was. Tretij and I used to go to arcades all the time after we left the island, and even after we parted I still enjoyed them. I think Tekken was one of the first ones I played after my stint in the Middle East.

Not as good when you haven't got your friend who can psychically reach into the coin mechanism and give you free plays with you, but good enough.

how about a few games now? me and you playing Tekken?

No, I learned using my fists. I didn't even have access to arcades before Mantis and I took off.

But yeah, I'll play a game or two, sure.

i'm not going to be your punch bag this time though, Liquid. you can use control pad to button bash.

Just don't throw the controller at the TV when you lose.

I'm much more skilled than that, believe me.

I'll throw whatever I want at whatever I want. I'm not going to lose, though, so no need to worry.

Liquid? [Yep, he's looking for you now.]

[And sure enough, soon he was walking right in, arms crossed, an eyebrow raised.]

[Because he isn't the one who's going to lose.]

I am absolutely not going to lose. Have you even played a video game? Somehow I doubt it.

[Liquid's pretty confident.]

No, but I've heard it's just pressing buttons on a console. Sounds easy enough. [Don't be so cocky, Snake.]

Tekken, right? I'll play as Jin Kazama. That guy.

You've got a lot to learn, old man.

Hm. Looks like I'll play... Hwoarang.

[He just kind of picks a flashy dude at random, really.]

Nice choice.

[He can see you opt for the flashy did with cool Japanese hair. But then most have similar hairstyles.]

Ok, let's do this.

[Venom waited for the start screen before the FIGHT! screen came up. He began smashing buttons at Liquid's character, kicking him in the head and then head-butting him.]

Thought so, yeah.

[Hey, he wasn't above choosing a character through style alone.]

I won't go easy on you even if this is your first game.

[It had been some time since the last time he'd played a game, but he got back into the groove easily enough, letting loose a volley of attacks.]

Fine. I don't want you to go easy on me anyway.

[Venom controlled his character to block each move Liquid's was dishing out at him. The guy was fast but Snake was able to counter attack with a volley of double kicks and high jump kicks.]

[Liquid scoffed.]

Well, you seem to at least be getting the hang of it.

[Still, Liquid knew his way around a video game or two (or three, or fifty, or a hundred), and soon enough he was getting himself into a good groove, blocking and hitting whenever he saw fit. Also he tended to turn the controller while he was playing even if it didn't do anything.]

[He knew Liquid had the advantage in that being he was younger and had experience in video games. Venom was a newbie.]

Your guy's ass is pretty big.

I've already had the hang of it. I'm good at this stuff.

[Kick kick kick kick. He knows what he's doing, for the most part.]

All the better to... fight you... with? I really didn't need to know the sort of thing you gravitate to.

Just a factual observation.

[Yeah, right. Liquid is kicking your guy's ass. Do something, Snake.]

Nice kicks. How about this? [Snake smashed some buttons and performed a combo of kicks and a power throw.]

Uh-huh.

[Some complicated button presses and he blocked a good bit of it, but he had to give credit where it was due.]

Not bad for a beginner. You might get good at this. But for now...

[He keeps on working with those combos.]

I'm just getting warmed up.

[Snake shot Liquid a sly glance, as he blocked a few moves from Liquid's character then began jumping up and kicking his opponent in the face.]

High kicks? Nice.

[Snorting in laughter, Liquid shook his head.]

Well, you're trying at least. I'll give you that.

[He jumped his character back, started blocking, and let out another volley of kicks.]

Maybe you'll even win one later on.

I can try a hell of a lot harder too.

[Ahab grunted, as his fingers began to ache with all the button bashing his was doing. Damn, Liquid's character was whooping his ass.]

Damn. How can your guy even do that?
